The largest and most powerful representative of toothed whales is the sperm whale, a very massive mammal, reaching a length of 20 m and weighing over 50 tonnes. Its huge head occupies up to a third of its body length, with 15-30 pairs of conical teeth sticking out of its mouth. The sperm whale has only a left nostril located at the end of its head. Its fountain is directed forwards and to the left, unlike all other whales. It feeds on cephalopod molluscs, diving to depths of up to 1500 metres. These whales inhabit all the oceans and almost all the seas of the world. Its caudal fin is very wide, which makes the sperm whale a spectacular sight when it dives.
